New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
The fires of the Bragollach had swept over the plain and raced up the lower hills of Dorthonion, burning everything in their way. Barahir and his band of survivors rarely came here, there was nothing here for them. But this time they’d had no choice, they’d had to avoid a group of orcs and had been driven far from their usual paths.
They were tired, looking for a place to rest, although none of them wanted to stay here for longer than they needed.
“I’ve found something”, Beren who had scouted ahead said. “Follow me.”
He led them to a little hollow in the ground where a plant had grown out of the ashes, pink flowers almost glowing against the black earth.
“There is hope yet”, Barahir said. “Even the fires of Morgoth can’t kill life forever. Let us take this for a sign that it is a safe place to stop.”
