Heavy and Squat - So What? by Himring
Fanwork Notes
This was written during an Insta-drabbling session on the SWG Discord for two Musicals Challenge prompts:
"For the sun will rise / And the moon will set / And learn how to settle / For what you get" (Cabaret)
"Take me for what I am / Who I was meant to be / And if you give a damn / Take me baby / Or leave me" (Rent).
Some more inspiration was taken from the full lyrics of the song from Cabaret.
Warning: as suggested by the summary, some issues with bias against fat people (but not from Aragorn/Thorongil).
Fanwork Information
Summary: Compared to Salgant and Bombur, and even compared to Fredegar Bolger, Forlong seems to have the least problems in the Legendarium with being duly respected despite his girth. But maybe even he had a less good time of it when he was younger. Set during Aragorn's time in Gondor as Thorongil. ‘You work your troops hard, my friend,’ says Forlong. ‘I do believe I have lost a fair amount of weight in this campaign.’
Thorongil looks up puzzled by the bitter undertone. He cannot really be complaining about the campaign? Of all his captains, Forlong has been the most steadily cheerful so far.
‘What happened with that marriage that your family was trying to arrange during your furlough?’
‘She could never fancy a man as fat as me. We broke it off. No need to be sorry for me! I am not the marrying kind. Still, it does sting, a bit.’
Chapter End Notes
I think this is set early enough to pass as Silmfic.
You may have noticed that I worked in Salgant references into the title and summary to soothe my own feelings of sneakiness.

Hmph, he's better off without such a judgemental spouse. It is tiresome when family meddles in marriage. And yet, we can't help feeling hurt by rejection, even when we're relieved for the way out!
Yes, he was relieved at…
Yes, he was relieved at being offered a way out, but the wording of that rejection still hurt!
