New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
Maeglin stared at his scroll in despair.
Apart from the little sketch of a mole at the bottom (a rather neat one, even if he said so himself) it was still completely blank.
It had seemed such a good idea to try out a Silmarillion Writers Guild monthly challenge. Uncle Turgon had suggested gently he should diversify his interests. And Maeglin had picked such a clever nom de plume: The Mole. Who would ever guess?
Maybe he should not have started with the Matryoshka challenge. He could have waited another month; maybe the next one would be easier. But the Beginner’s Challenge! Only two prompts—how hard could it be!
That first terrible prompt stared him in the face, as it had done for the last hour.
No, he finally scrawled vehemently.
No, I am definitely a poor little meow-meow. I am not a character with three or more unlikable traits, even if I can’t face myself in the mirror most days.
Yes, I know Idril would not agree and my cousin has impeccable taste, usually! But in this case, she is just plain wrong, wrong, WRONG! For the following reasons:
At this point inspiration deserted him again completely. He really, really wished that the SWG would allow the use of AI to complete the fic.
In frustration, he hurled the quill onto his desk, spattering it with ink, and tore the scroll into little pieces. After a moment of consideration, he did save the little sketch of the mole.
He would have to find a different way to diversify his interests to please Uncle Turgon, some other day.
For now, he would just indulge in an afternoon of easy digging in the mines of Anghabar to help him calm himself down again!
Yes, this bit of crack forced itself on my brain when I had decided I had no ideas for this challenge whatsoever and was trying to go to sleep. Why do you have to ask?
(This is not the usual Himring-verse Maeglin, by the way.)
