Read This Last Shadow
The sight of Laurelin and Telperion blazing brightly in the distance still seems unbelievable. A dream of times long past, a memory come to life once more, before Time itself may find an end. They, Maitimo and Findekáno, last walked in this Light before they had known anything of Darkness, and for a moment, it would be all too easy to pretend it had never come.
But Fingon draws Maedhros near, and there in his eyes, he sees those dark memories remaining true, sees that Darkness has not fully passed from this world even after the Last Battle has been fought.
All wars are in their past now. Until Arda is remade, there are years left through which their dreads shall be forgotten. Centuries even, if Fingon is lucky. Yet Maedhros waited vainly for death to find him again in the Last Battle, and still no enemy withstood him, no arrow was swift enough to strike his heart. Then one day, victory had come, and Maedhros still lived.
Fingon takes his hand and leads him far away, to a place where they might make their own peace, and where, beneath the Light of the Trees, this last shadow might pass.
