Fanwork Notes

A/N 1: If you want to know which minor liberties I’ve taken with canon before you read the story, they are explained in End Note 1.

A/N 2: Regarding Fingon’s and Maedhros’ nicknames for one another in this story: “my Bright Flame” and “my Eagle” have been their nicknames for one another since they were young elves in Valinor, long before Fingon’s rescue of Maedhros from Thangorodrim. See End Note 2 if you would like to know more about this.

Fanwork Information

Summary:

Fingon clapped the stranger on the shoulder as he cheerfully informed Maedhros, "Fealasso here is the captain of your bodyguards. They will keep you safe during the community service you’ve volunteered to do in Alqualonde and Tol Eressea.”

Maedhros closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose as he struggled for patience.

Or, Fingon outmaneuvers Maedhros. It’s for his own good, of course.

Please note that the liberties I’ve taken with canon in this story are minor, I’ve checked the box for ‘AU’ just to be safe.

Quotes:

Excerpt from the Lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne" by Robert Burns:

Should old acquaintance be forgot,

and never brought to mind?

Should old acquaintance be forgot,

and auld lang syne?

We two have paddled in the stream,

from morning sun till dine;

But seas between us broad have roared

since auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty friend!

And give me a hand o' thine!

And we'll take a right good-will draught,

for auld lang syne.
