New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
From the Femslash February SWG discord instadrabbling session on February 8, 2025 for the prompt "Lightning, backwards, sheets, ashes". During the War of Wrath, High Queen Alphangil dismisses two hesitant soldiers.
Muffled by the falling ashes, thunder crackles. Lightning in the clouds that rise from Thangorodrim casts light on the hosts that stand in opposition to Morgoth. Faces pale like sheets, but ranks close together, stand firm against the night.
Alphangil glows with impossible, fierce pride for them and wonders if this is what Fingon felt before the Fifth Battle became the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. But not all are so steadfast. Behind her, borne backwards, shuddering, war-scarred, are Ríngannel and Aurast, wives with their hands clasped, and she bows to them. "Go as far from the war as you can. Find peace."
