Fire

Read Fire

The hateful traitor, Melkor, Morgoth, King of the World, refused to die, using one of his last breaths to cry out like a pitiful Child of Eru as he was strangled by the dreadful black cords of Ungoliant, Gloomweaver, all her terrible strength and ever-growing lust not enough to stop that sound which ran as a living thing across the mountains. Like the one who birthed it, it fled, striding as an invisible giant across the folds and valleys of rock, shaking them, seeking for innumerable cracks in the earth, forcing itself through, spiralling down and down until it landed amongst his most loyal and frightful followers - the Balrogs, who opened wide their watchful eyes.

As a fury of flame they came, bursting forth from their master’s domain as typhoons of fire which set ablaze the star spangled sky from horizon to horizon, not a moment of deliberation spared by them. For the mighty Morgoth to cry so, he must be in mortal peril, and his terror inspired incredible wrath in his courtier spirits. Rushing across the land as fast as the light of the sun one day would, in but a moment they were upon the great spider, she who would eat the world, lashing at her spun shroud of Unlight and her cloying webs of death, freeing their Lord and placing the fear of fire forever in her black heart. Bright and burning, she could not consume it, its light no passive thing to glut upon, but all hate and all destruction. Try as she might, she could not stand against the combined might of their rage, and must leave the traitor where he lay, along with the precious jewels he dared keep from her. Bitter, bitter, nothing else but hunger had ever been so bitter.
