Fanwork Notes

So, this fic...kind of ended up defying categorization. I started it as a relatively straightforward whumpfic, and it--did not stay that way. As such, I've tried to do some fairly detailed warnings in the beginning of each chapter to supplement the tags, as they really do kind of end up all over the place. Please do check the chapter end notes for warnings, if you are likely to need them. This fic gets very dark in certain places, but to avoid spoilers for people who do not like spoilers, I have collected the CWs at chapter's end.

Summary:

While searching for a series of his lost notes on Gondolin, the scholar Pengolodh is taken by bandits and used cruelly.

Rescued by a friend and taken to the remnants of Melian's Girdle, he begins a slow road to recovery that will lead to the apprehension of the attackers, the judgement of the king, and unexpected friendships and cultural exchanges.

Of the Eldar

Some useful context and information:

While Tavrobel is usually associated with a location on Tol Eressëa, there is a map on pg 408 of The Lost Road in which Tolkien places it in Beleriand, specifically in the forest of Brethil. That is the location I am referring to as Tavrobel in this fic. It's obscure, I got excited about it, please indulge me.

"Elentári" is the Quenya equivalent of the more well-known "Elbereth," one of the names of the Vala Varda.

Of the Peredhil

We've hit the "comfort" part of the "hurt/comfort".

Elros takes Pengolodh back to a Marchwarden outpost and bathes and feeds him. 

Of the folk of Balar

Several months after Pengolodh is rescued by Elros, the Elves and Orcs who attacked him are brought to judgement before the king.
