Ooh! Well, of course their comfy idyllic life couldn't continue, and the truth would Iinevitably out at some point, but ooof! Ossë, the mischievous so and so! "This should be interesting" says he. He reminds me of a small boy poking insects with a sharp stick just to see what happens, without any emphathy for how they might experience it.

Oooh, so many repercussions... how will Celegorm deal, with the guilt and shame of his memories, as well as his perception that Daeron betrayed him. And the twins! How do they feel with this knowledge? And how will they react? So happy their story continues!

I can't bear it! Poor Lossë, and poor Daeron and the twins as well. What on earth was Ossë thinking?? I know Celegorm had to come back to himself at some point, but this is so, so hard - not least because he's just in time for terrible things to happen to Celebrimbor... :(

(And oh no, he must have remembered Huan, on top of everything else! Maybe he needs to be adopted by a dog.)

I really am glad there's a sequel to the wonderful ATWTB, honestly! This is such a powerful, painful opening, though - I've been thinking about it non-stop since I first read it on Saturday. At least the title is hopeful!

Poor Celebrimbor :,,(

His death is one of the saddest, but surviving this will be so devastating in a whole new way. He's been betrayed by someone he called a friend, and will have to heal from all these terrible injuries on top of that. Celebrimbor being alive, along with his uncles, is going to add such interesting and complicated dimensions to this story. Can't wait to see what happens!

So heartbreaking!! Poor Elurin. It makes so much sense that he would be afraid, probably the way Elrond and Elros would have feared Maedhros and Maglor, only now he has to feel it thousands of years later. :''''''''(((( You are breaking my heart in the best possible way

I'm enjoying this so much, and I'm grateful as always for your very frequent updates! It's great to wake up to a new chapter, or to be able to flop down and read one after a hard day.

I've been hoping that Huan would appear, so his return is such a welcome development. :)

I especially love chapter 11, sad as it is, where poor Celebrimbor pretends to be asleep rather than admit how much pain he's in. :( And Daeron's healing scene with him is quite possibly my favourite so far - there's so much kindness and comfort in all his words and actions.

Okay, I'm here! Just got my new account set up. Glad to see at least one of the authors I follow posts their fic someplace other than AO3 so I can keep reading it. (Wish I had my 'marked for later' list from AO3 to see if any of those fics/authors are here too, but I guess I'll just have to poke around looking for stuff to read that looks interesting.)

AAAA OMG the stress!!!! and the BANNER ugh that’s so evil. thank god they got here in time (hopefully with as clean a getaway as possible too). chapter kudos <3

"“And if—if he catches you out the way he caught Fin—”" -- You can't just end a sentence that way when you have several relatives whose names start with 'Fin', Celegorm! Sure, not all of them were caught by Sauron, but your conversational partner shouldn't have to run through all the possibilities in his head to figure out which one you're thinking of, lol.

The first image that sprang into my mind when you mentioned something dropped onto the ground and pressed into the mud was Fingon's ribbons when he fell in battle, WHICH AS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS STORY. But damn, other fanfics have pressed that image deep into my mind. Elured's pendant isn't much better, but I like the idea of him deliberately dropping it to lay a trail for them to follow. I don't think an orc would have bothered ripping a simple carved leaf pendant off their captive's neck, it's not like it was something obviously valuable like gold or jewels that they might have wanted for themself and then dropped in a fight over it or something? It doesn't much matter; I'm only glad that they found it so they can give it back.

Ugh, broken legs are not good.

"Maglor’s voice behind them was thunderous, drowning out even Sauron's as he attempted to counter it." -- Love that; Sauron (a maia!) tries to sing over him and Maglor just sings louder. That's my boy!

This chapter was excellent as always! I do want to strangle Celegorm for not learning a damn thing and going around swearing oaths and sacrificing himself. But well, very in character of him lol. Is he ever going to learn that those who love him would be hurt be his death?! I have my doubts 😆. Love this story, thank you!

Oh wow, what a chapter! Interesting POV, and so much happens. Poor, poor Celebrimbor, struggling with all those feelings... 😭 And Daeron must be beside himself, with two people he loves so badly hurt. Thank goodness for Elrond!

Well, after seeing Celegorm willing to die if it would keep Sauron from getting Elured back, I don't think Elurin is going to have any more problems seeing him as their father first and foremost. I am so glad that they reached the safety of Imladris, it's going to be a while before Elured is able to stand again unless they can Sing broken bones back together. (I feel like maybe it could help re-align them cleanly and even hasten bone growth, but not completely heal something like that overnight. Not that I would object to that, but it doesn't seem realistic.) I'm also looking forward to seeing some Elrond and Maglor interaction! And omg, I can't wait to see Celegorm waking to find Huan by his side (if they let him into the room) All five of them -- Maglor, Daeron, the twins, and Huan were awesome defending Celegorm from Huan. Good on Huan if he left Sauron permanently scarred.

"It was Elrond. He stepped inside and shut the door behind him, and then threw his arms around Maglor, all before either of them could so much as take a breath." -- Yes, thank you, Elrond. That was just what Maglor needed.

"“I’m not going anywhere,” Maglor said. “Or at least—I go where my brother goes.” /...Elrond seemed almost pleased. “Then I’ll make sure he stays,” he said, “and then I’ll get to have you and my uncles with me all at once and for good.” -- Elrond is like hell yeah, family reunion! Time to work on finishing the family wing of the house!

"In spite of everything, Maglor felt a thrill shoot up his spine. “I still need to rest my voice a little more, between that and what I was doing before,” he said, “but I too would like to find out what we can do." -- Same here! I am excited to see what our minstrel boys can do together!

*Joins Huan on the floor* Poor fellow, everyone's telling him to stay down and he just wants to let Celegorm know that he's back. And lick him, probably. It's very important to make the rest of his pack smell alike. *Offers skritches and belly rubs while keeping him company*

Loved Elurin tearing into Celeborn -- "“Where were Dior and Nimloth when we were separated from our sister and lost in the forest? I have heard that Maedhros himself searched for us after the fighting was over. Did you?”

Celeborn’s face had gone white. “Elurín—”

“Where were any of you when we were sick, or hurt, or frightened? You will not dictate who Eluréd and I choose to call our family. Not when it was Celegorm who bandaged our hurts and dried our tears—and it was Dior who refused to hand over the Silmaril that Thingol should never have demanded in the first place." -- Well said! I especially enjoyed the Thingol smack-down.

Huan is the best boy; I think we should imagine him in the Halls of Mandos watching the tapestries showing Celegorm's life. When it got to the point where he saw Celegorm was going to Need Him, he went to the gates of Mandos and began barking non-stop until Namo re-embodied him and let him out. From there it was just a matter of getting to the shore and hitching a ride on a ship to Numenor and then to Middle earth. I'm glad that Celegorm knows he's back now, and he could use an extra guardian to look after him while he's recovering. Their little family is growing nicely!
