She surveyed the forest of stone that populated her workshop with a critical eye. Only projects that she had made for herself were left – any commissions had been delivered or cancelled. Anairë stood at her side, a constant presence. Two broken women, propping each other up in a vain attempt at being whole and stable. Nerdanel shook her head sadly. The heavy hammer that fit her hand like it had always belonged there fell with a low thud. She turned away, dragging Anairë with her – no statues would be broken today, the grief too near to be turned to destruction.
