There was no clear reason why she walked through this particular forest. It was a place with no name, a desolate place of shadow and mist. Darkness, unnatural and ominous, clung to her short dress, grasping at her sleeves and pulling at her hair. Her breathing was loud in her ears, her hands clammy and cold around her bow. How had she come to be here? She had left the road not long ago, surely it wasn’t far?
A crack, a snap. 
An elf, black haired and milky-pale skinned, just ahead. He approached, touched her hair, and led her home
