Waiting in the Dark (Elwing & Elrond & Elros)

prompt: wait, dark, clasp, red

Elwing woke to red flames reaching for the stars. Her second home, the birthplace of her unexpected romance and her little star-children, the seat of everything good left in darkness-infected Beleriand … it would not last. She ran to the twins, clasping them tight to her chest, racing up the lighthouse tower she had made her house. They cried as she held them, smoke in their eyes.  “You must wait for me, little stars,” she whispered, tucking them away into a trunk at the top of her tower. “You must be silent, still. Just like we practiced, do you remember?”
