Running with the Shadows

Prompt: running, water, morning, thought

Írissë had spent her entire life running, even if she hadn’t thought it at the start, she knew it now. Running from the expectations of her family, being the only granddaughter of Finwë for many a long year. Running with Oromë and Tyelkormo and the Hunt, greeting each morning with a prayer for swift and silent feet, that her skill might be enough to distinguish herself. Running away from the Doom and bone deep dread and her mother’s tearful, pleading face. Running across a frozen, hellish wasteland, rushing water tearing away all pretense of stability. Running to escape the cage that the encircling mountains made, even as her brother insisted it was for her safety. Running back to her brother’s hidden city, beloved but ill-conceived twilight child in tow, hoping, pleading that Ondolindë would protect them once again. Írissë ran, and ran, and ran, until she could run no more.
