A cold, lonely light

Firiel remembers Arvedui. Written using prompts from May 2026, but completed several months later.

winter, bitter, linger, fall

How could I have known I would need to remember your laughter?

And there's a cold, lonely light that shines from you.

We had each feared being lonely and cold

But soon discovered that in this we were not alone!

So we laughed at ourselves,  and made each other laugh.

We danced together, as was expected,

Until we thawed and became warmer

And found our own way of being.

You and our sons were the sun in my winter of loss,

Keeping the frost at bay.

And though you fell by the bitter hand of Angmar,

Your light still lingers, shining through the ice and into my soul;

And your laughter lives on in our grandson,

Echoing through the valley of Imladris.
