I am here because of the smile Thranduil gave to Thror in the cinema version of the Hobbit. It was edited out of the extended version, erroneously, in my view.
It was the most Elvish thing i ever saw, a real 1000 yard stare. It was like looking through a keyhole into another universe. It turned my enthusiasm for Tolkien into fannish research into the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales etc, looking for Thranduil, and for the world of the Elves.
